Don't forget that spare propeller!

Whether you have an aluminum or stainless steel propeller, it is very important that you carry a spare prop on your boat. "Well I never hit anything" Those are famous last words. Imagine being out on the lake and an all of a sudden - Whack!!! You lose 2 blades after hitting a submerged log. But now you nearest marine center is 50 miles away. Even if they are close, maybe they don't have the prop you need.

There goes the precious boating weekend. Spare boat propellers are as important as a spare tire in your car. Boat props are crucial to your boat, they don't go anywhere without them. With the interchangeable hubs today, it is rather inexpensive to carry a second aluminum propeller.

Carrying a second boat propeller doesn't have to mean just having a spare in case.... If you are into water sports, or carry extra people on board, a second propeller of a lower pitch will help compensate for the added weight and drag to increase performance. It will also increase your fuel economy, and we all know gas isn't exactly cheap these days.

So when purchasing that new propeller, take into consideration all the things mentioned here. Make sure you have that spare! If you don't know what prop you need, use our Prop Wizard program to help you select the right boat propeller!
